Types of Copper Nickel Reducers

Copper Nickel Concentric Reducer

A Copper Nickel Concentric Reducer is designed with both ends aligned on a common centerline, creating a smooth and balanced transition between different pipe diameters. This configuration helps maintain consistent flow characteristics throughout the piping system.

Concentric reducers are widely used in vertical piping installations, seawater cooling systems, offshore process lines, and marine engineering applications where maintaining symmetrical flow is important. The gradual reduction in pipe size helps minimize flow disturbance and supports stable operating conditions.

Typical Applications: Vertical pipelines, seawater circulation systems, fire protection networks, desalination plants, and process piping requiring uniform flow distribution.

Key Advantages: Smooth flow transition, reduced pressure loss, lower turbulence levels, and improved hydraulic efficiency across the pipe size change.

Copper Nickel Eccentric Reducer

A Copper Nickel Eccentric Reducer features offset centerlines between the larger and smaller pipe ends. This design is commonly selected for horizontal piping systems where maintaining a level pipe invert or top line is critical.

By eliminating high or low points within the pipeline, eccentric reducers help prevent the formation of air pockets, vapor accumulation, or liquid stagnation. This makes them particularly suitable for pump suction lines, ballast water systems, and drainage applications found in marine and offshore environments.

Typical Applications: Horizontal pipelines, pump suction systems, ballast water lines, cooling water networks, and drainage systems.

Key Advantages: Reduces the risk of cavitation, prevents trapped air or fluid buildup, improves system reliability, and supports efficient fluid transport in horizontal installations.

Copper Nickel Reducer FAQ

What is a Copper Nickel Reducer used for?

A copper nickel reducer is used to connect copper nickel pipes of different diameters while maintaining efficient fluid flow. It is widely installed in seawater cooling systems, ballast water pipelines, offshore platforms, shipbuilding projects, desalination plants, and other marine piping applications where corrosion resistance is critical.

What is the difference between a concentric reducer and an eccentric reducer?

A concentric reducer has both pipe ends aligned on the same centerline, making it suitable for vertical piping systems and applications requiring symmetrical flow. An eccentric reducer features an offset centerline and is commonly used in horizontal pipelines and pump suction lines to prevent air accumulation and flow disruption.

Which material grade is better: CuNi 90/10 or CuNi 70/30?

CuNi 90/10 (C70600) is the most widely used and cost-effective choice for general marine seawater systems. CuNi 70/30 (C71500) contains a higher nickel content, providing greater mechanical strength and enhanced resistance to high-velocity seawater, erosion-corrosion, and demanding offshore environments.

Can you supply ASME B16.9 Copper Nickel Reducers?

Yes. We manufacture and supply ASME B16.9 copper nickel reducers in both concentric and eccentric designs. Available sizes typically range from 1/2″ to 24″ with wall thicknesses including Sch 5S, Sch 10S, Sch 40S, and Sch 80S, depending on project requirements.

Are DIN and EEMUA Copper Nickel Reducers available?

Yes. We supply copper nickel reducers manufactured in accordance with DIN 86089, EEMUA 146, and EEMUA 234 standards. Standard sizes are available from DN15 to DN500 with pressure ratings such as 10 bar, 14 bar, 16 bar, and 20 bar for marine and offshore piping systems.

Can Copper Nickel Reducers be customized?

Yes. Custom dimensions, wall thicknesses, material grades, pressure ratings, and inspection requirements can be supplied according to project specifications. Reducers can also be manufactured to customer drawings and international standards.

What inspection documents can be provided?

Depending on project requirements, reducers can be supplied with EN 10204 3.1 Material Test Certificates (MTC), dimensional inspection reports, PMI reports, hydrostatic test reports, and third-party inspection documentation from agencies such as SGS, BV, DNV, ABS, or LR.
